We have a 2.5 year old black mouth cur mix, Milo. We adopted him from the New Braunfels Humane Society when he was a puppy. He is the sweetest boy, but we have run into a big situation and are trying our best to find a safe and loving home for him. He is wonderful with our 5 and 7 year old, but has shown resource guarding behaviors specifically toward our 19 month old soon after she became mobile. After the first incident, we began working with a behaviorist to do individual training and have been extremely careful. The baby largely avoids him due to him snapping at her when walking with food previous times. Despite this, she sustained a bite to the face a few days ago when she was under the table and reached for food on the floor. Our five year old let Milo out of his crate without us knowing and he was also under the table. We are working with animal control and our local shelter to navigate all of this. The humane society will take him back but did state that he would likely be euthanized. That is the last thing that we want for him, so I am working hard to explore all possible options. Our hearts are broken, because he is the sweetest boy; but we no longer feel that we can keep him and our baby safe in the same home. The animal control officer we are working with had high hopes that with the right family, Milo could continue to lead a happy and full life. We just want him to be loved and safe.
