Koda loves seven things: (1) curling up on a soft bed, (2) chewing on bones, (3) laying out in the sun, (4) running around the yard when he smells something in the air, (5) belly scratches, (6) walks, and (7) howling when he hears sirens driving by! If he lived in the wild he'd probably also enjoying chasing small animals!
I don't know if Koda was every formally trained. A friend of mine and his wife adopted him from Henderson Animal Shelter around 2019, and they soon realized they could not keep him. I had another dog at the time (a husky mix), so I agreed to take Koda in. In the house, Koda will come when called, and will sit and stay - so he's learned that much. But when people come over, I tell them to ignore Koda. He is not the dog you wrestle when you first meet him, and you don't get down in his face. It takes some time to develop his comfort level. Even then, if he gets nervous, he'll gladly go curl up in the other side of the house. Oh, and doesn't like to be picked up!
All that said, he really is a sweetheart. He's waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs each morning with his tail wagging, and he often follows me around the house as I do various chores (unless he's napping or I'm vacuuming!). He's generally good on walks and can be a great running partner. He would be great in a home where the owner understands dogs and can be patient with Koda's personality quirks.
